Top 5 Way to make games into Super Duper Games

Just about any game we could ever play can be used to connect kids with the Gospel!  At CentriKid, as part of our "Big Kid Track" for adults, we'll take a look at some silly games in Jeff Land's Super Duper Fun & Exciting Absolutely Thought Igniting Bible Activities for Kids.  As we play, we'll understand a little more about how to CONNECT these silly games to Bible stories, spiritual truths, or our personal walk with God.  Here are our TOP 5 for transforming a pointness game into a game with a purpose:

1. Plan ahead.  Be ready with either a Bible story connection or a few Scripture references.  Things won't always go as planned, but being ready in advance will help move kids in the direction you're leading.

2. Get their attention.  Move kids away from the playing area.  Keep distractions to a minimum by finding an area where its easiest for kids to focus on you and not what's happening behind you.  Visually, get on their level - kneel, sit, take off your sunglasses, make eye contact.

3. Ask questions.  Lots of them!  How did you feel when...? What was it like to be in that role?  What did you think when...? Remember, keep these open-ended and give kids plenty of time to think and respond.

4. Go where kids go.  Let them lead the conversation with their response.  In asking open ended questions and digging deeper, kids can make lots of connection on their own with just some simple guidance.

5. Keep it Simple. We don't always have to take a silly tag game and make a deep theological connection with adoption in 2 Samuel 9.  At the same time, we don't wanna miss out on biblical truths that kids bring up. Don't overcomplicate the spiritual connection.  The more kids understand, the more they'll remember!

Look for Super Duper... in the CentriKid Camp Store this summer, and join us for Game Day in Big Kid Track at camp.
